2014 Westlake Boys Sportsman of the Year Dan Hoy won the U19 Triathlon Title at the National Schools Triathlon Championships at Jack’s Point in Queenstown on Thursday 7th April, just a week after he made his debut at ITU World Cup level in New Plymouth.
With a time of 1:01:37, Dan left behind David Martin from Palmerston North Boys High (1:03:15) and Bradley Cullen from Hamilton Boys High (1:03:39) in ideal conditions with temperatures close to 20 degrees and hardly any wind.
His outstanding achievement is the result of many intensive training sessions and dedication to his sport. “You are only at school for a limited time and you have to take these opportunities, to win a national title means a lot to me and to my school, so I am pleased to win that today on a testing course.”, a comment made by Dan to NZ Herald.
