Westlake Boys 1st XI vs Westlake Boys 2nd XI
The 1st XI Hockey team had, arguably, one of their toughest matches of the year to begin the season. Playing against a spirited 2nd XI would never be easy, with many having points to prove.
The 2nd XI had the better of the starts with regular attacks into the 1st XI circle forcing keeper Callum Grassick to make some good saves early on. Midway through the first half, the younger players in the 1st XI proved their worth and set up Tiarn Pryde for his first goal. Stefan Wiig touched home a second, before Pryde scored from a penalty corer to go into the break.
The 2nd XI came out fighting in the second half, wanting to get on the board and close the gap. They had a number of chances to attack the circle with some good midfield play through Sam Readman. However, the share speed of play proved the telling factor when Wiig grabbed a second, and Cam Jones-Moore scored a good individual goal. Matt Kitney closed out the game for the 1st XI swarming goal keeper Dylan Wright.
The 6-0 win for the 1st XI was a much closer game than the final score line suggests and included a lot of scrappy, first game jitters from both teams.
