1st XI v St Kentigern College

The first day of the Premier Two-Day Competition in Term 4 was washed out, which meant that Westlake would face St. Kentigern College in a 50 over match to start the second half of the season. St. Kentigerns won the toss at their home ground and opted to bat first. Whilst the Westlake seamers struggled to find their line and length the opposite was the case for spinner Ryan Schierhout. He produced incredibly economic figures of 1-16 off his 10 over allotment which helped build pressure and led to wickets for the seamers. Both Luke Ranson (3-47) and Angus McKenzie (3-46) finished with 3 wickets while Keegan Russell (2-34) claimed two. Westlake were left with the task of chasing down 197 in order to win the match. The chase begun with a solid opening partnership of 66 by openers Adam Baard (34) and Ryan Quinn (40). This in turn allowed the Skipper, Angus McKenzie (31) and Ryan Schierhout (47) to play their shots, with Schierhout completing a very impressive all round performance. Westlake chased down 197 with 3 wickets in hand and 3 overs remaining, for a comprehensive 3 wicket win. This victory elevated the team to joint top of the Auckland Championship, with two matches remaining.

2nd XI v St Kentigern College

Westlake lost the toss and were asked to field by St Kent’s. Westlake opened the bowling with off spinner, Nick Burt. After completing his 9 overs on the trot and two unfortunate dropped catches, Nick managed to tie up the one end. He was ably supported by the seamers from the other end as the St Kent’s batsmen were pinned back from the first over. Adrian Young showed his all-round ability by taking 2-38. An inspired spell of quick bowling from Jacob Waitai (2-24) helped restrict St Kent’s to 208 runs off 45 overs on a matchbox of a field. Westlake started off their innings with a bang and reached 131 before Josh Hamilton was out for 49 well played runs. Sam Collinson joined Adrian Young in the middle and notched up a quick 14 runs before Adrian Young (112*) notched up his maiden century for Westlake Boys High School. Young and Jarred Harford then proceeded to knock off the last few runs to reach the target of 209 runs with 5 overs to spare. The 2nd XI thus beat St Kent’s 2nd XI by 8 wickets.

3rd XI v St Peters

The 3rd X1 started off their second half of the season against St Peters College. Westlake won the toss and decided to bat first. After losing two quick wickets, Sid Mahajan and James Barton steadied the ship. Each batsmen made a useful contribution with Connar Dean top scoring with 28, followed by James Barton with 26. Westlake managed to score 163 in the allotted 45 overs. The fielding effort was superb with each bowler drying up the runs. Isaac Levido was the standout performer claiming 5-26. St Peters were bowled out for 139 resulting in a victory by 24 runs.

Colts 1 v Sacred Heart

Colts 1 travelled to Sacred Heart College for their first game of Term 4. Sacred Heart won the loss on a lovely clear spring day and were quickly in trouble against the accurate bowling of Peter Ruffell, Ben Drown and Tom Pleciak. With Sacred Heart on 18/4, Colts 1 were well on top but then a good partnership took the game slightly away. However, Joe Moore with a very accurate spell backed by the spin of Jordan Thornton finished Sacred Heart off for 86. Peter Ruffell ended with 3/17 and Jordan Thornton with 3/19. The chase for victory started positively with Colts 1 putting on 35 for the first wicket before Sam Reidy with a fine 41*and Bevon John Jacobs (23*) took the team to a 9 wicket victory with 24 overs to spare.

Colts 2 v St Peter’s College

The Colts 2 team were bowled out for 93 runs against St Peters College, who chased down the total with 7 wickets spare.
