1st XI v MAGS

The first day of the two day game against Mt Albert Grammar was hosted by Westlake who lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a green, fast track. Thanks largely to an excellent partnership of 75 from Angus Mackenzie and Campbell Knowles, Westlake were able to score 196. Unfortunately both players fell just short of personal milestones with McKenzie finishing on 81 and Knowles 48. Mt Albert began their innings prior to tea which gave Westlake plenty of opportunity to put a dent in their run chase. MAGS finished the day at 95 for 4 as Westlake bowled well but with little reward. This leaves plenty to play for in Day 2 and shapes up to be a very exciting day of cricket.

2nd XI v AGS 2nd XI

The 2nd XI sent the Auckland Grammar 2nd XI in to bat, but failed to capitalise on good early bowling conditions. Westlake bowled well enough to restrict any meaningful partnerships, but did not create enough chances to really stamp their authority on the match. AGS plodded to 190 all out in 78 overs. Facing an hour of batting late in the day, Westlake lost cheap wickets to be 29/3 off 16 overs. Sam Brewis with 3-18 and Trent Walker with 3-22 were the stand out bowlers.

3rd XI v Mt Roskill 1st XI

WBHS 3rd XI won the toss and decided to send Mt Roskill 1st XI into bat on a slightly damp pitch. Our opening bowlers bowled well, but two dropped catches early on proved costly, after MRGS posted an imposing 302/9 dec in 77 overs. Pick of the bowlers were Isaac Levido with 2-45 and Josh McIntyre with 3-42, while Aditya Chemburkar was the pick of the fielders with 3 catches. Westlake replied with 27/0 off 8 overs.

4th XI v Kings College

Westlake lost the toss and Kings decided to bat. Kings started with a flourish, with an impressive display of clean hitting. 28 overs later they had helped themselves to 238/5. Westlake started the chase well but then started to lose wickets on a regular basis. Westlake managed 110 in their 28 overs mainly due to Euan Grigor’s contribution of 23 not out.

Colts 1 v Rosmini Colts 1

A cold and windy afternoon greeted Colts 1 in their game against local rivals, Rosmini College. Rosmini won the toss and elected to bat and for the third game in a row, Colts 1 would need to bat second and chase a total. Rosmini started confidently and a large total looked likely but good bowling and field changes by Captain Mitchell Gray, coupled by accurate bowling pegged them back and the opposition could only amass 106/9 in their allotted 45 overs. Jordan Thornton (2/18) and Olly Chambers (2/10) spun a web around the batsmen but they were very well supported by the quicker bowlers. Ben Drown took 2/21. Chasing a small total can be difficult but not on this occasion as an attacking innings from Alec Bennie put Colts 1 well on top and then an unbeaten partnership of 64 between BJ Jacobs with 49* and Tom Pleciak 20* took Colts 1 to an eight wicket win.

Colts 2 v Selwyn College Colts 1

Batting first, Colts 2 worked hard for their combative total of 149 all out in the 44th over. The innings began with an excellent partnership from Dylan Hamilton (25) and Scott Sylvester (19) and a bigger total looked promising at the 15 over drinks break. Good bowling by Selwyn slowed the scoring rate down. Most batsman made a contribution with Tahir Wentzel making a tidy 19. However, some wayward bowling by the Colts 2 bowlers offered the opposition batsman a selection of Liquorish all sorts which they devoured. Selwyn scored the runs in the 16th over with one wicket down as our team failed to bowl either a consistent length or line. A serious regroup for the game against Rangitoto this weekend is needed.

Colts 3 v Kristin Composite

Colts 3 amassed a mammoth total of 275/1 in 40 overs, after Dorian Dixon (153 not out) and Regan Diver (101 not out) helped themselves to a century each. Kristin were bowled out for 47 in 15 overs, after Milo Brown (3/18), Joe Wickens (2/13) and Josh Holloway (2/6) captured the bulk of the wickets.

Colts 4 v Rosmini Colts 4

Colts 4 chose to bat first at home against Rosmini College. A spirited batting performance and consistent run rate got Westlake to 156 after 32 overs. Opener Venkat Seelam top scored with 60 runs, backed up by a solid innings from Nohan Hensman (13), Luca Hanna (13) and Risith Kankanamge (12). Rosmini made a good start in chasing down the total, but this was quickly stalled by persistent Westlake bowling. The work of Dinura Yaddehige (3-18) and Para Balaraman (2-9) led to Rosmini being dismissed for 113 after 31 overs. A great collective performance from the team secured Colts 4 a good victory by 43 runs.
