1st XI v Kings College

In the final game of this season, Westlake battled it out against Kings College for the Auckland Two-Day title. Captain McKenzie won the toss and decided to bat on the Westlake wicket. The decision appeared to be the wrong one before an impressive fourth wicket stand of 85 by Angus McKenzie (62) and Campbell Knowles (20). While wickets tumbled throughout the innings, a useful tenth wicket partnership between Ethan Schaumkel (31) and Keegan Russell allowed the team to reach a respectable total of 224. Kings began the run chase during the third session of the day and failed to gather any momentum as wickets fell at regular intervals. They finished on 75 for 4 needing 150 runs with 6 wickets in hand to claim a first innings victory. Luke Ranson produced an impressive spell of bowling, finishing with 2-8 off 6 overs.

2nd XI v Auckland Grammar 3rd XI

The 2nd XI elected to bat on a freezing day at Point England on the first day against AGS 3rd XI. Chasing an outright win, Westlake scored quickly to reach 226, mainly due to Cameron Abrahamse (55) and Ollie Baker (60). With an hour to bowl at the opposition, Westlake made some progress with AGS 3/42 at stumps.

3rd XI v Avondale College XI

Westlake won the toss and chose to bat. Only Neel Patel (31), Sid Mahajan (33) and Daniel Young (25) made contributions to the meagre total of 112. Avondale set about chasing the runs and at close of play were 118/2, 6 runs ahead. Poor fielding and lack of consistency in line and length bowling were contributing factors. The team will have a big task next Saturday to avoid an outright loss.

Colts 1 v Kings College

The opposition won the toss and asked Colts 1 to bat. In an innings interrupted by rain on a couple of occasions the score of 187 was more than adequate on a wicket that was not easy to bat on. BJ Jacobs top scored with 41 and he was ably assisted by Daniel Maddren with 36 and Mitchell Gray with 27. Kings started their chase well for the first wicket and were ably assisted by a number of dropped catches. Sam Reidy made the breakthrough with wickets off consecutive balls. Joe Moore and Tom Pleciak chipped in with two wickets each and Kings were out for 162 giving Westlake the win by 25 runs.

Colts 2 v Mt Roskill

Colts 2 win by default

Colts 3 v Colts 4

Colts 4 won the toss and sent Colts 3 in to bat in cold and drizzly conditions. Both openers were dismissed cheaply and Colts 3 quickly found themselves in trouble on 35/3. Max Harbottle (41) and Regan Diver (23) then steadied the innings, with everyone else chipping in to get the team to 178/8 in 40 overs. Colts 4 rain into trouble with two early runouts. Max Harbottle (2/26) and Rory Price (2/26) got rid of the Colts 4 top order. Josh Samaraweera batted well for Colts 4 with 43 runs but it wasn’t enough as they were dismissed for 95, giving Colts 3 a win by 83 runs. Colts 3 now have a home final next weekend.
