Last Thursday night we welcomed a unique group to the school. Our Westlaker Dads and their sons attended a function to celebrate their special status in our community as double generation Westlaker families.

Guests mingled over a few drinks and finger food. The Dads reconnected with fellow old boys, sharing stories of rugby games, rowing triumphs and teachers who were memorable, as well as admiring all that is new at Westlake.  Memories were jogged with a slideshow of old photos and year books on display from the previous decades.  The current boys found the photos amusing, but the general feeling in the room was one of pride.

Headmaster, David Ferguson, thanked the parents for choosing to send their sons to Westlake. He talked about the many ways old boys generously help the school, by mentoring, coaching sports teams and making donations to name a few. This helps to create a strong Westlake community with a culture of giving back.

Richard Stevens, Westlakers Committee President, knows first- hand about the special bond there is when boys and their dads have been to the same school as he has had two sons at Westlake. He spoke passionately about this and remarked that the dads are much cooler than the boys think and that they should treasure times like this spent with their dads.

The Chhour family were the lucky draw winners of tickets to the next Father Son Breakfast in July.

As a memento of the evening, dads and sons had the opportunity to have their photo taken in front of our new ceremonial archway. This was a great way to conclude the evening.
