Sunday night saw the Westlake Premier team take on rivals St Peter’s College, with whom we recently drew. Coach Carevic and Westlaker Jake Bennett were impressed with the boys’ team-work and composure in what proved to be a tough game.

Westlake came out strong with Zach Newton-Cross and Liam Wedlock-Aston scoring quickly in the first quarter.  The teams were going goal for goal during the first half and were locked 4-4 at the half-time break.  Korban Kirk, Zach Newton-Cross, Campbell Knowles and Liam Wedlock-Aston gained 7 goals in total for Westlake, with a strong penalty by Corban Wedlock-Aston in the final quarter cementing the win for Westlake by 8-7.  It was a close game yet again, but one that built confidence in the team.

The North Island competition begins on Wednesday, March 29th and runs until Sunday, April 2nd. Both the Premier and Senior B team will play in this event, with the Premier team looking forward to Nationals coming up in Wellington during the April holidays.

The Senior B team narrowly lost their Auckland semi-final 6-7 to Howick.
