Dear Parents and GuardiansIt has felt like business as usual this week after the start up last week. It has been good to see everyone getting their heads down and getting on with their learning. All of our young men should be receiving homework now, an essential part of their learning. If you have any concerns during the year about your son not seeming to have much work to do at home, feel free to contact your son’s Dean. The rain didn’t dampen spirits at the House Haka competition this afternoon (well done to Stanley house), it was great to see so many of our community members there. Our Annual Prefect’s assembly this morning was another very enjoyable event. Enjoy the Waitangi weekend. David Ferguson |

2016 Westlakers ‘St Patrick’s’ Golf DayWhen: Thursday 17th March 2016 (St Patrick’s Day), 12pm registration for a 1pm start Where: Waitemata Golf Club, Derby St, Devonport Join us on the greens for a round of ‘St Patrick’s Day’ golf at the 2016 Westlakers Golf Day at Waitemata Golf Club in Devonport. The annual Westlakers Golf Day is one of the highlights on the Westlakers calendar. It is the day that old boys, Westlake parents, staff and supporters get together for a sporty and fun-filled round of golf in typical Westlaker spirit. The Golf Day commences at midday and concludes with a casual buffet meal and brief Prizegiving at 6pm. |
|||
The Westlakers Golf Day is not just an afternoon of fun and play on the greens. All monies raised from the day will help selected Westlake families who require assistance to meet the costs of their sons’ endeavours in the classroom, on the sports field or on stage. We look forward to your support.
On the line is the highly desirable John Patterson Memorial Trophy and on this day we remember and celebrate one of Westlake’s true characters, popular Westlake teacher and highly regarded colleague John Patterson, who passed away suddenly at Westlake in June 1996. Read more about John Patterson and the John Patterson Memorial Trophy here. |

Westlake Boys High School Gymnasium – your opportunity to be part of the Westlake sporting legacy and attend the official opening! |
|||
Last year we invited all school families to be part of the new Westlake Boys High School Gymnasium. Thanks to those of you who decided to donate a brick to the Westlakers Wall or donate a swan on the impressive entrance way mural.
If you’re a new parent in 2016 or you’ve been thinking about these or any of the other contribution options, the opportunity are still on offer and if you make a contribution next week you’ll not only be part of a Westlake legacy, you’ll also be invited to attend the official opening on February 25th. Information on the contribution opportunities is located in the WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM brochure here. The donation form is on Page 4 of the brochure. You can either print it off, complete it and return it to Vicki Fowler by email or drop it into school. If completing the form is not convenient please simply drop an email to Community Relations Manager Vicki Fowler on vfowler@westlake.school.nz and we can make arrangements from there. Donations can be made by online banking payment (details on page 4 of brochure), cheque or credit card and all donations are 100% tax deductible. We look forward to your family being part of this exciting Westlake legacy. |

1st XI Martin Crowe Cup T20 CompetitionThe 2016 season brought about a few new beginnings for the Westlake Boys High School 1sdt XI Cricket team. Westlake Boys new Geography teacher Mr Tillett took over the coaching duties from Mr Emslie (Westlake’s new 1st XV Rugby coach), as the assistant coach to Mr Scivier. As usual, some new faces appeared in the warm ups/trials, including Ethan Schaumkel, Luke Ranson, Ruben Fitzgerald, Cameron Abrahamse as well as Joshua Arnott and Craig Templeton. The start of the season began on 30th January in a new T20 competition for the Martin Crowe Cup. The first T20 match played on a hot and humid Saturday morning at St Kentigern College was against Mt Albert Grammar School. Westlake batted first and accumulated a total of 133 from their 20 overs, after Adam Baard with 51* retired out, got the team off to a flyer. In reply, MAGS were 15 runs short, with 118. Luke Ranson with 3/22, was the pick of the bowlers. Later in the afternoon, Westlake played against the hosts, St Kents. Westlake batted first and reached 135 off their allotted 20 overs. Once again, Adam Baard, led the batting with a splendid 43, supported by Angus McKenzie with 31. St Kents could only muster 92 runs, after Angus McKenzie and Keegan Russell, the opening bowlers, both took two wickets each in restricting the opposition. The third T20 match will be played against King’s College shortly. Click here for Cricket Top Scores 2016 – updated 2 February 2016 |
