WBHS 1st XI v Kristin School 1st XI
For the fourth time this season Westlake Boys 1st XI Hockey were up against Kristin School’s 1st XI in the semi-finals of the Auckland Supercity competition, played at the North Harbour Hockey turf on Wednesday evening. Throughout the competition both teams have shown excellent improvement and, with a finals spot at stake, it was Westlake who continued their winning streak, completing another consistent performance on the night.
Westlake controlled the match from the start but some solid Kristin defence enabled the team to capitalise on some early chances. In the end, quick passing allowed Wesley Sleep to add to his goal tally for the season followed by a super shot from Jord Glandorf which resulted in a nice deflection for Mitchell Ottow.
In the second half Wesley Sleep finished off a great passing move, Benji Edwards fired home and Jord Glandorf slipped one past the Kristin goalkeeper. Kristin did cause the Westlake defence some problems and managed to put away a deserved penalty corner. With the final score 5-1 to Westlake, the team will now play King’s College for top honours in the Auckland Supercity competition next Wednesday at the Harbour Hockey turf at 6.25pm.
